Obituary for James Elvin "Brother" Phillips

James Elvin "Brother"  Phillips
Phillips, James “Brother” – age 69 of Maynardville, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Maynardville. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and great friend to many. “Brother” worked 28 years as the Union County Trustee. He was a 5th degree black belt of Isshinryu Karate and an instructor to many. He was also a faithful Masonic member of J. C. Baker Lodge #720. He is preceded in death by father, James Radis Phillips and mother, Edna Sexton Phillips; sister, Carolyn Nell Phillips; infant daughter, Lindsey Ann Phillips; and loving niece, Denise Capps Cooke. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Deborah Phillips; daughter, Jana (Andy) Gibson; son, Kain Phillips and daughter, Brooke (Mason) Simpson: adored by five grandchildren, Taylor, Brayden, Brylee, Hayston and Easton: three sisters, Catherine (Bennie) Capps, Ann (Kyle) Richardson and Debbie (Billy) Cox; brother, Ike (Pat) Phillips; also loved by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 21, 2014 in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic services will be conducted by J. C. Baker Lodge #720 and the funeral service will immediately follow at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Philip King officiating and music by The Washam Family. Pallbearers are Mason Simpson, Andy Gibson, Brad Capps, Greg Capps, Steven Berry and James Forsythe. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Cox, Kyle Richardson, Bennie Capps, Jackie Simmons, Freddie Simmons, Gerald Simmons, Ray Hinton, Glenn Fields, George Booker and Larry Lay. Interment will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 22, 2014 in Big Barren Cemetery in Maynardville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Maynardville, P. O. Box 520, Maynardville, Tennessee 37807 or to J. C. Baker Lodge #720, P. O. Box 161, Maynardville, Tennessee 37807.
